I’m feeling lazy today, so here’s some Friday fodder for your mushy brains.
I ran across this game which people are calling the “Japanese IQ Test”. Japanese companies are supposedly using this as a testing tool when hiring candidates. And why wouldn’t they? Employees are the life blood of any company. What better way to ensure you get the very best people than to have candidates crack this impenetrable flash game.
Wanna play? Click the blue circle to start.
Here are the rules:
* Only 2 people on the raft at a time.
* The Father can’t be alone with any of the daughters (apparently he’s a creep).
* The Mother can’t be alone with any of the sons.
* The thief can’t be alone with any family member.
* Only the Father, the Mother and the Policeman can operate the raft.
It took me roughly 12 minutes to come up with a solution. I’m not sure if that means I’m a genius or a monkey. There are no average scores available – at least not in english.
I’ve graciously documented my maneuvers for those of you who are lazy…or have better things to do with your life.
Scroll down for my solution.

Jon: How long did it take you?
Can’t see a blue circle to click on, but what about this solution? I didn’t see anywhere that said there had to be 2 people in the raft – only that there couldn’t be more than 2 …
Policeman takes Thief; Policeman comes back
Father takes Policeman; Father comes back
Father takes son; Father comes back
Mother takes Father; Mother comes back
Mother takes Daughter; everyone is over there.
Took 2 minutes for that one.
Took me 17 seconds. I know how to use Google.
Why waste your brain cycles on a problem that’s already been solved?
John: Wouldn’t it be hilarious if that was the right answer for the hiring test?
I can see six people in a room trying to figure this thing out like a bunch of douches.
Meanwhile one person actually hits google and gets the job.
Janice, what about the second daughter?
Colin, I couldn’t see the acutal problem as to how many sons and daughters there were, but it would be the same – just repeat the father takes son or mother takes daughter for however many kids there are.
Janice, it’s not that simple. Just occurred to me that you only got one son over also. You can’t just repeat the sequence of mother takes daughter or father takes son because you’ll end up with a situation where either the father is left with a daughter(s) or the mother is left with a son(s). Using one son and one daughter misses the entire point of the challenge. Certainly, Mike isn’t that much of a “monkey” that it would have taken him 12 minutes to solve your much watered down version. LOL!
