On this blog, Saturday is Bacon recipe day. So no Excel tips and tricks today. Today we learn about bacon.

It’s morning here in Dallas and I’m thinking about making some Bacon Oatmeal.

This is sure to give me the calories I need to face a day of sitting in front of the television.

Cooked Oatmeal

A splash of real maple syrup

Lots of crumbled bacon

Bacon bits, a little soy sauce and a slice of cheese melted on top. Not to bad.

I have been eating bacon and oat meal for over 40 years. I did not think anyone else was doing this.
I don’t use the quick cook oats, just the real oats, “cooked” for about 2 min. Then I drain the water off and add some skim milk and brown sugar to taste. The bacon is cooked and the grease is blotted off and served crumbled on the top as I eat it.

I ‘ll bet I am the only person that eats yellow mustard on oreo cookies. Been doing that for years also.

My entire family grew up eating oatmeal and bacon for breakfast. Our mothers parents came from Lithuania, where something like that….maybe barley and bacon…..was porridge, and a common source of nutrition.

We use slab or jowl bacon, cut into little cubes and fried crisp, drained, and add them to regular cooked oatmeal, made with water and salt, per package directions. The more the bacon, the better the dish.

It’s real comfort food for us! I thought we were the only family in the country that knew about it!
