Today’s Excel Bastard is Jan Karel Pieterse!
Jan Karel (pronounced Yan Karel) is an 8-year veteran Excel MVP living and working in the Netherlands. This Dutch doctor of Excel serves up Excel guidance through his website, JKP ADS, in both Dutch and English. That’s twice the content! Jan Karel seems like a serious fellow, but get a few beers into him and he’ll open right up.
Here is my exclusive interview with Jan Karel Pieterse, Excel Guru.
DataPig: What’s your favorite thing in your refrigerator right now?
Jan Karel:
Dutch cheese
OMG – I like this guy already. You know that Bacon is my first true love. But if I were to commit culinary adultery, it would be with Dutch cheese.
DataPig: Red Shirt or Blue?
Jan Karel: Blue
DataPig: How many hats do you have?
Jan Karel: 1
I’m not sure what kind of hat Jan Karel has, but I like to imagine him wearing a sombrero while he intently solves Excel problems.
DataPig: Who plays your role in a movie about Excel?
Jan Karel: Mike Alexander.
DataPig: Which Superpower do you want: Invisibility, Flight, Strength, or Mind Reading?
Jan Karel: Flight.
DataPig: What’s the title of your autobiography?
Jan Karel: My Cell Mate
DataPig: Who do you like better, Tom or Jerry?
Jan Karel: Tom.
DataPig: What’s the most important part of the sandwich?
Jan Karel: Everything but the bread.
You’d be a fan of the new Sandwich KFC is offering here in the U.S. It’s called the double-down Sandwich. About 3 years too late for the Atkins diet craze.
DataPig: What’s the Best thing you ever ate?
Jan Karel: Spareribs, roasted while hanging out on a Caribbean beach.
No need to qualify it with a location. Ribs are tasty anywhere. You could have said you ate them next to your underwear drawer.
DataPig: What’s the Worst thing you ever ate?
Jan Karel: Yes, I do like worst (“worst” being Dutch for sausage).
Since Jan Karel didn’t give me a good answer, let me answer for him. The worst thing he ever ate was Double Salted Dutch Licorice.
Well, he may actually like it. But I’ve tasted it and I promise you it’s horrid stuff.
I personally don’t know what else Jan Karel has eaten, but I’ve seen him eat this stuff and it has got to be the worst stuff on earth.
Want to know what it tastes like? Put a piece of licorice in your mouth along with two tablespoons of salt – then chew.
