A Sampling of Spam

August 13, 2010 by datapig Leave a reply »

When I started this blog over a year ago, I knew that ‘Spam Comments’ would be an issue. These are comments inserted into posts by web crawlers – typically containing links to sites trying to sell something.

Â

I use a WordPress plugin called Akismet to track and block the spam traffic on my blog. This allows my readers to see real comments for a post without wading through ads for Viagra and Porn.

Without a tool like Akismet, spam would literally overtake my blog comments. To illustrate, take a look at this Akismet chart highlighting my ratio of spam (fake comments) to ‘ham’ (real comments).

Now, I do get to see these spam comments behind the scenes and some of them are quite humorous.

Today, I’d like to give you a sampling of some of the silly spam I spare you from.

#1 The Lip Thinker

This gem came from GixxerGuy, who apparently can’t hang around people who read lips.

Doesn’t this mean that people who can read lips can read his mind?

.

#2 The Father and Son Double-Date

Here’s a strange comment from someone who has a really close relationship with is old man.

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so excited about a blog post that I called my Dad.

#3 What a Small World

Here are three comments from three different people who apparently were all looking for an interview with John Walkenbach before “I spared them a lot of work”.

And they all commented the same sentiment within a few hours of each other. What a small world!

.

#4 The Disappointed Spammer

Here is a spammer who is so disappointed I’m removing his spam that he asks, “Why are you removing my replys”.

Mainly because your first name is Bun.

#5 My favorite

This guy was so moved by my post Missing in Action that he wanted to let me know that it really “made him think”.

 About what – Chuck Norris?

.

.

And with that, I’ll wish you all a good weekend.

Wow, this post just spared me from having to really think, which kept my lips from moving. Hopefully you wont’s be deleting my replys.
